Lagebeschreibung
Podbablje
Ane i neobičnom arhitekturom kuće Domljan.
**Podbablje**
Located on the southern side of the Imotski Field, beneath the hill called Baba (from which it gets its name), Podbablje stretches along the slopes. Covering an area of 42 km², it is home to around 4,800 residents and includes the settlements of Drum, Grubine, Hršćevani, Ivanbegovina, Kamenmost, Krivodol, Podbablje, and Poljica.
The settlement of Drum, located along the ancient Roman road from Salona (Solin) to Narona (Vid near Metković), owes its name to the Turkish word for road "drum" which originates from the Greek word *dromos* (road, path).
The village of Poljica is picturesque, nestled in a valley between hills, with the Church of St. Anne and the unique architecture of the Domljan House. The nearby village of Krivodol is the birthplace of the greatest Croatian poet, Tin Ujević.
Along the course of the Vrljika River, many archaeological remains from Roman times have been found, including an inscription mentioning the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, which was embedded in a stone bridgegiving the settlement of Kamenmost (literally "Stone Bridge") its name.
Recently, during road reconstruction, a late medieval cemetery and a gabled *stećak* (medieval tombstone) were discovered near the bridge. The Church of St. Luke is also located here, first mentioned in 1562, with the current structure built in 1705. During Ottoman rule, the church served the local Christian population not only for worship but also as a fortress, with thick walls and a stone roof. During its most recent renovation a few years ago, loopholes (small defensive openings) were discovered in the walls.
Several old mills have been preserved along the Vrljika River (such as Markićuša and Patrljeva Mill), while the largest millalso the only one still operationalis located in the field at "Perinuša." It is part of the Franceschi estate, which developed from the 17th to the early 20th century.
