The place lies in the middle of Poljica, and as it is written in the Polish statute, it is one of the twelve main Poljica villages - katun. It is located not far from the river Cetina. The village has a little over 600 inhabitants and is recording a slight increase in the number of inhabitants.
In their history, Gata played a significant role in central Dalmatia. They were the main center of the “Poljička Republic”.
Now they belong administratively to the city of Omiš.
