Estados Unidos RE/MAX english Helen Perilloux I became enchanted with Pittsburgh's rich architectural heritage when I moved here to earn my Ph.D. in Physical Anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh. While living in a neglected neighborhood with rapidly diminishing housing stock due to speculative demolitions, I decided that I would get these properties into the hands of those who would save them from the wrecking ball. I obtained my real estate license, and by working with community groups, rallying neighbors, and prodding city officials, we collectively passed legislation that prohibits demolitions in our neighborhood without a Department of City Planning-approved plan for redevelopment. It is an ongoing project to get people to realize the value of preserving and restoring old buildings, but our efforts have resulted in the protection and restoration of over a dozen threatened buildings in Uptown.
As a real estate agent, I help people from all walks of life buy and sell homes, commercial buildings, and land across the Pittsburgh region. I help landlords find tenants for their spaces, and business owners to find spaces in which to operate. I also own and manage a number of rental properties and have gotten pretty skilled at repairing gas stoves, among other things.
I am a continual student of the historic building arts: blacksmithing, timberframing, furniture building, and welding. I serve on the board of La Escuelita Arcoiris, Pittsburgh's only Spanish immersion preschool, and I previously served on the boards of Uptown Partners, Touchstone Center for Crafts, and the Friendship Preservation Group. I remain a member of Uptown Partners' Real Estate Design & Development committee which vets development projects coming to our neighborhood.
I acquired my first rental property in 2006 by buying the apartment building in which I was living, and I earned my real estate license in 2012. I spent five years with Coldwell Banker, and I've been with RE/Max Select Realty's East Liberty office since 2017.
