Afula is a city in the Northern District of Israel located in the heart of the Jezreel Valley, between the cities of Hadera and Tiberias. Afula is often called the "Capital of the Valley" due to the city's central location in the heart of the Jezreel Valley. Afula is located in the place where the ancient biblical settlement of Afal, mentioned in the Book of Kings, was located. Modern Afula was founded in 1925 by a Zionist settlement company called the American Zion Community near an ancient site called Tel Afula. 2 Tel Afula. An ancient site. Archaeological excavations have found finds from the Bronze Age, the Roman period, the Byzantine period, the Arab period and the Ottoman period in the Land of Israel. A wall made of sarcophagi (stone coffins) was built around it by the Ottomans, parts of which have survived. It is located on a hill between the houses of the city on Barkhan Street.
